The Bulb-Mode on a camera allows for the application of a manual shuttertime -somewhat autonomous from the camera’s technology- produced by the photographer, allowing him-/her to make a more ‘visceral photograph’ that comes a step closer to sketching, drawing or painting. Pictures produced in this manner are technically different -some people would say imperfecter- with a soft-focus from movement-unsharpnes when handheld or showing colorshifts from ‘artisanal, gestimated exposure times’ that renders a photograph closer to the lived, corporeal emotions of the photographer. In this sense it’s a more ‘phenomenological fabricationproces’ of photographs that has an added value of their own within the photographical narrative and visual storytelling. In this folder one can find a selection of photographs from my ongoing bulb-photography cycle called ‘Remnants of the Fleeting World’.
